This was announced by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos during a meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi during the Foreign Ministers' meeting in Luxembourg, dedicated to security and interregional cooperation. The officials discussed next steps in Moldova's accession process to the EU, focusing on foreign policy, security, and defense. The head of Moldovan diplomacy expressed gratitude to the European Union for the assistance provided to the country on its European path, including through the Moldova Economic Growth Plan. Mihail Popșoi welcomed the European Commission's positive assessment of Moldova's progress in the EU accession process, noting his readiness to move on to the opening of negotiating clusters given Moldova's successful completion of the bilateral screening stage. Marta Kos called on the Moldovan authorities to maintain the pace of reform implementation necessary to advance towards EU accession. She stated that an assessment of these reforms will be presented in the European Commission's annual report on the enlargement package, scheduled for publication this fall. At the same time, the European Commission's commitment to continue supporting Moldova through expert assistance, facilitation, and gradual access to EU instruments and programs was reaffirmed. The meeting also discussed holding parliamentary elections in Moldova on September 28, 2025, with an emphasis on the experience gained in organizing free and fair elections.
