Moldova will host several European Commission audit missions in 2026, which will help accelerate efforts to secure access to the EU market for other Moldovan agricultural products – the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA)

According to the National Food Safety Agency, this was discussed during the 11th meeting of the Moldova-EU subcommittee on sanitary and phytosanitary measures, which was attended by representatives of ANSA, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Bureau for European Integration, other national institutions, and representatives of the European Commission (DG SANTE). The meeting reviewed progress in the cooperation dialogue and the implementation of mutual commitments under the "Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures" section of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU, as well as the progress of efforts to align the countries with European standards in food safety, animal health, and plant protection. Radu Musteata, Director General of the National Agency for Food Safety, who chaired the meeting, noted Moldova's progress in exporting livestock products and planting material to the European Union, as well as successes in combating outbreaks of avian influenza and African swine fever. Regarding the epizootic situation in the country, he stated that, thanks to recommendations from EU experts, these outbreaks were successfully contained. Meanwhile, Iurie Scripnic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, emphasized that EU accession remains Moldova's strategic goal, and technical cooperation in sanitary and phytosanitary matters is a crucial pillar of this process. "In 2025, we completed the review of Chapters 11, 12, and 13, and in 2026, we plan to harmonize approximately 260 legislative acts. This is a significant effort, but it is absolutely necessary to improve the compatibility of our systems with European ones and facilitate trade in agrifood products," he stated. During the meeting, the Subcommittee's activities were praised as an effective tool for monitoring mutual commitments in Moldova's process of achieving EU accession criteria. It was noted that Moldova will host a series of European Commission audit missions in 2026, which will intensify efforts to ensure access to the EU market for other Moldovan agri-food products. The Subcommittee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures represents a cooperation platform between Moldova and the EU, helping to strengthen the regulatory framework, increase the competitiveness of agri-food products, and ensure consumer protection. // 28.10.2025 — InfoMarket.
