The European Union needs Moldova as much as Moldova needs the EU, and now is the time to start accession talks - Roberta Metsola
President of the European Parliament made this statement during a speech at a formal session of the Moldovan Parliament on Friday to mark the establishment of the 12th Parliament. Roberta Metsola expressed her strong support for Moldova and the European institutions regarding the start of accession negotiations. "You have successfully completed the screening process and adopted a number of important roadmaps to strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions. You have decided to move on to this cluster of negotiations, and now we are all on track to start these negotiations by the end of this year," she said. The head of the European Parliament said that despite all the threats and interference that have attempted to destabilize the situation, Moldova is resolutely moving forward in the accession process. "You are truly the generation that can bring Moldova back home to Europe," Roberta Metsola emphasized. She assured that the institution she heads will continue to support Moldova. "Moldova's future is European. This means that you will never be alone on this path, no matter how difficult it may be. The European Parliament will do everything possible to accompany you on this path, in your desire to become members of the European Union. We are the first institution to request candidate country status for Moldova," said President of the European Parliament. At the same time, Roberta Metsola announced the official opening of the European Parliament Office in Chisinau, confirming the EU's commitment to Moldova and the Eastern Partnership. "This office will be here to support you day after day in all your efforts to join," emphasized President of the European Parliament. She stressed that EU enlargement remains Europe's "most powerful geopolitical tool," noting that "an enlarged European Union, based on clear objectives, criteria, and merits, is the best investment in peace, stability, security, and prosperity on the continent." Roberta Metsola said that the EU has allocated €1.9 billion for reforms in Moldova and will continue to invest in its integration into the single European market. In conclusion, she stated that "the European Parliament cannot and will not close the door on this dream—a dream that will unite us." // 07.11.2025 – InfoMarket.
