The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is actively involved in the international dialogue on strengthening the role of women in the economy
The NBM reported this, noting that its Governor, Anca Dragu, took part in the Women Lead event organized by the World Bank in Washington as part of the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, which took place from October 13 to 18. The event, now in its third year, brought together women leaders from around the world who are working to promote gender equality, create jobs, and expand women's access to economic opportunities. Women Lead is designed as a platform for dialogue and exchange of experiences between women in key positions in various fields, with the aim of finding concrete solutions to reduce gender inequality in the economy. Among the central themes were initiatives for women's employment, women's leadership, resource and asset management, and cooperation between the public sector, business, and society. Participants spoke about the importance of work and cooperation as key elements of economic progress, emphasizing that “when people work, they not only provide for themselves, but also contribute to the common good and development of the country,” and that “progress is achieved when the state, business, and society work together to create a more equitable world and real opportunities for both women and men.” The NBM's participation in this event confirms the institution's commitment to promoting women's leadership and equal opportunities in the financial sector. In this context, mention was made of the FinanciarELE – Women's leadership community project, launched by NBM in March 2025, which provides women in Moldova with opportunities for mentoring, training, and professional interaction. In addition, the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, currently being developed with the support of the World Bank, places particular emphasis on expanding access to modern and secure financial services for vulnerable groups, including women. Women Lead is an annual World Bank event that brings together women leaders from the public and private sectors to find ways to reduce gender inequality and create an enabling environment for women's professional development. According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2025 (World Economic Forum), Moldova entered the world's top 10 for the first time, ranking 7th with a parity score of 81.3%, which is 2.3 points higher than in the previous year. Our country has made significant progress in terms of women's participation in the economy, their representation in leadership positions, and the promotion of policies of inclusiveness and financial education. // 17.10.2025 — InfoMarket.
