The NBM warns of fraud attempts involving the misuse of the institution’s identity

Specifically, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) informs the public that fake messages and documents are being circulated online via messaging apps, in which the institution’s identity is being misused for malicious purposes. These materials contain elements designed to mislead the public, including the NBM logo, official-looking text, fictitious document numbers, and signatures falsely attributed to NBM management. In these messages, citizens are asked to follow specific instructions regarding alleged loans, cancellation requests, money transfers, or other financial transactions. The NBM categorically denies the authenticity of these messages and documents and states that they were not issued, approved, or transmitted by the institution. These materials constitute an attempt at fraud. In this context, the NBM reiterates that it does not contact citizens to request personal data, passwords, verification codes, or banking information; the NBM does not require individuals to enter into loan agreements, submit loan applications, or make transfers to “cancel” transactions; it does not provide loans to individuals and does not interfere in contractual relationships between citizens and financial institutions; it does not create “corporate chat rooms” to resolve alleged cases of fraud; it does not appoint “specialists” to provide individual instructions regarding loans, accounts, or payments. The NBM urges citizens to exercise caution, avoid clicking on suspicious links, refrain from sending copies of identity documents, bank details, passwords, or codes received via SMS, and not make payments at the direction of unknown individuals. “If you receive such messages or documents, immediately cease communication, do not follow the instructions provided, and report this to the bank you use, as well as to law enforcement agencies,” the NBM emphasized. The NBM reiterates that relying on information from official sources and carefully verifying requests received online help prevent financial fraud. The NBM recommends using information from official sources to protect yourself from financial fraud schemes. // 14.05.2026 – InfoMarket.
