Citizens of Moldova are required to declare the re-registration of acts of civil status registered abroad.

Citizens of Moldova are required to declare the re-registration of acts of civil status registered abroad.

According to the Public Services Agency, it is necessary to declare re-registration within 6 months after returning to the country or receiving from abroad a certificate of registration of a civil status act or a copy or extract from a civil status record. Official documents issued by the authorities of other states are recognized in Moldova only in case of their consular legalization or if they are apostilled and translated (unless otherwise provided by the treaty/convention/agreement signed by Moldova). At the same time, exceptions are provided for some documents from a number of countries. For example, consular legalization or apostille is not required for multilingual extracts from birth, marriage and death certificates issued by the competent authorities of Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, France, Portugal, Poland and other countries, as well as documents issued by state parties to the Convention on Legal assistance and legal relations in civil, family and criminal cases (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan); and documents of states with which Moldova has concluded bilateral agreements, including in the order of succession (Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Georgia). Civil status records/documents drawn up in accordance with the laws of foreign states and confirmed by official documents issued by foreign bodies of a religious, notarial, private nature (contracts, decisions of courts/courts, etc.) are not subject to the re-registration procedure. They are recognized as valid on the territory of Moldova, subject to their consular legalization or apostille in the prescribed manner. They are submitted to the competent authorities of Moldova in order to take them as a basis in the event of the emergence, change or termination of civil / family relations, in case of recognition of the fact of marriage in accordance with the legislation of the republic. // 10.05.2023 — InfoMarket
