The European Parliament approved an increase in funds allocated to Moldova for its preparation for EU accession, specifically, the overall budget for all candidate countries in the EU's multiannual budget for 2028-2034 will be increased by 12%
This was announced by Siegfried Mureșan, Co-Chair of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee and Romanian MEP, who noted that the European Parliament's plenary session on Tuesday adopted a decision on his report proposing a 12% increase in the funding line for Moldova and other candidate countries in the EU's multiannual budget for 2028-2034. Specifically, the report calls for an increase in the "Global Europe" budget line by almost 12% compared to the European Commission's initial proposal. Furthermore, the European Parliament is requesting the allocation of specific budget lines for pre-accession funding for Moldova and each of the other candidate states. "We are thus providing these countries with predictability regarding the support they will receive in their preparation for accession. The exact amounts that Moldova and each candidate state will receive from the future multiannual EU budget will be known once the negotiations on the overall cost of the budget lines are completed. However, the proposal to increase the 'Global Europe' budget line will provide us with a very good starting point for obtaining adequate funding for Moldova in the next financial year," stated Siegfried Mureșan. He noted that just as Romania and other countries in the region received pre-accession funding, which made a decisive contribution to strengthening and modernizing the countries prior to EU accession, it is crucial that Moldova also have the necessary resources to support its European path. Siegfried Mureşan explained that after today's vote, the report becomes the official mandate of the European Parliament for negotiations with the European Commission and the European Council on the adoption of the next Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union for 2028-2034.// 28.04.2026 — InfoMarket.
