The total amount of aid provided to Moldova by the French Development Agency (AFD) has exceeded 300 million euros since 2022

This was discussed during a meeting held by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu with Benjamin Haddad, France’s Minister Delegate for European Affairs. The parties discussed the current regional situation, the objectives of the bilateral agenda, opportunities to strengthen Moldovan-French dialogue, and new investment projects. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the consistent support provided by France, both in the process of Moldova’s European integration and in the implementation of projects that have a direct impact on citizens’ lives. At the same time, two agreements were signed at the government with AFD, under which Moldova will receive 60 million euros to modernize irrigation infrastructure and expand farmers’ access to water. The financial package includes a 45-million-euro loan and a 15-million-euro grant. The grant is the first investment project under the Growth Plan for Moldova—the largest European economic support program for our country. It is expected that on lands served by the restored irrigation systems, agricultural production could increase by at least 50% compared to the average over the past 10 years. Thanks to these investments, farmers will gain more reliable access to water for irrigation, and the agricultural sector will become more resilient to drought and challenges related to water resource management. A Declaration of Intent was also signed regarding a joint information and communication strategy on challenges related to Moldova’s accession process to the European Union. The document reaffirms close cooperation between Chisinau and Paris in supporting the country’s European course. Another stated goal is to attract French investment. The Prime Minister emphasized Moldova’s interest in strengthening economic ties with France and encouraging French entrepreneurs to invest in sectors with high growth potential, including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, industry, and modern technologies. // 15.05.2026 – InfoMarket.
