Moldova registered 0.39% inflation in 2020 against 7.54% a year earlier.
The National Bureau of Statistics reported this, noting that, in particular, from January to December 2020, prices for food products increased by 1.66%, and for non-food products - decreased by 0.49%, and the cost of services provided to the population decreased by 0.3%. According to the NBS, monthly inflation in December 2020 was 0.32% against 0.86% in December 2019. Consumer prices in December 2020 increased by 0.32% compared to the previous month, amid 0.51% increase in prices for food products and 0.37% increase in prices for non-food products. At the same time, tariffs for services provided to the population in the reporting month decreased by 0.05%. According to official statistics, in December 2020, prices for the following food products increased compared to the previous month: fresh grapes - by 5.9%, fresh vegetables - by 4.1% (in particular: sweet peppers - by 19.7%, cabbage - by 12.7%, eggplants - by 10.8%, tomatoes - by 4.1%, cucumbers - by 3.4%, garlic - by 2.2%), pome fruits - by 3% , 7%, sunflower oil - by 3.5%, chicken eggs, cereals, rice, cheese, cottage cheese, wheat and corn flour, sour cream, sugar and honey - up to 2%. At the same time, prices decreased for: carrots - by 6.2%, citrus - by 3.7%, pork - by 2.2%, potatoes - by 2.1%, exotic fruits - by 1.2%, mutton, meat products and semi-finished products - 0.7% each, fresh and frozen fish - by 0.4%. The NBS notes that, as far as non-food products are concerned, in December 2020, compared to November 2020, a more significant increase in prices (up to 3%) was registered in the case of the following products: liquefied gas in cylinders, fuel, medicines, medical devices, TVs, cars, cigarettes. At the same time, in December, compared with November 2020, there was a slight decrease in prices for the following products: coal, refrigerators and freezers, electric stoves, working power tools, cameras and video cameras, household chemicals, travel goods and haberdashery, shoes and boots for men, women shoes, sporting goods - up to 2%. Among the services rendered to the population, in December, compared to November 2020, prices for compulsory motor vehicle insurance increased by 14.9%, travel services abroad - by 4.2%, air transportation services - by 1.9%, hotel services - by 1.7%, apartment rent - by 0.8%.
