The European Parliament has called on the EU Council to speed up negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine on EU accession and to open negotiations on clusters at the official level
The Co-chair of the Parliamentary Committee on EU-Moldova Association, Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan announced this, noting that this call is contained in the European Parliament's approved position on EU enlargement policy. Siegfried Muresan stressed that in the current geopolitical context, the enlargement of the European Union is one of the most important instruments for ensuring its security, and only with a stable situation in Moldova and Ukraine and their strong connection with the European course will it be possible to guarantee the security of the EU's eastern flank in the long term. According to him, in this regard, the European Parliament today adopted a position on EU enlargement policy. In particular, in the adopted document, the European Parliament called on the Council of the European Union to speed up negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine on EU accession by opening negotiations on clusters at the official level, not just at the technical level. It was agreed that the accession process should be based on merit. If a country has fulfilled the conditions for accession, it cannot be held back for political reasons. The accession process should go hand in hand with the gradual integration of candidate countries into the European Union. In this way, citizens of candidate countries will be able to experience the benefits of the EU before accession. // 11.03.2026 — InfoMarket.
