There are 134 thousand young people registered in Moldova who do not study, do not work and are not looking for a job (NEET youth categories)
These are the data of the study "Social inclusion of NEET youth and their activation in the labor sphere", developed by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and presented at the Economic Council under the Prime Minister within the working group "Labor market development". According to Violeta Vrabie, ILO project coordinator in Moldova, young NEETs are people between 15 and 34 years old, 60% of them are girls and women. According to the data, young NEETs do not work or study because of family responsibilities (the highest rate among women), the desire to go to work abroad (the highest rate among men) or because of illness/disability, discouragement, etc. Anna Gherganova, Head of Employment Policy Department - Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, noted during the discussions that Moldova has a Youth Development Strategy and employment programs, and the National Youth Agency is responsible for the implementation of youth policies and programs. At the same time, the participants in the meeting noted the need to elaborate some program documents concerning the social integration of NEET youth and their activation in the labor field. Roman Banari, Head of the National Youth Council of Moldova, said that his organization is open to support the authorities in the process of studying the possibilities of adjusting the legislative framework regarding the rights of NEET youth. At the same time, the working group discussed the need to develop a national program that would contain several instruments to attract NEET youth in the educational and labor spheres. // 07.08.2024 - InfoMarket.
