The Moldovan Parliament has registered a draft law providing for a 50% reduction in excise duties on basic oil products and exemption from VAT with the right to deduct gasoline and diesel fuel.
The document, which was developed by the deputies of the opposition faction of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, also proposes to reduce the VAT rate on natural gas from 8% to 4%. According to the Bloc of Communists and Socialists deputy, deputy chairman of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finance Petru Burduja, these measures are expected by the entire population of the country, including economic agents with whom consultations were held. It is expected that the impact of the law will immediately be felt by a significant part of citizens who will be able to purchase gasoline and diesel fuel at a price of 8 lei per liter less than the current one. Thus, these measures will contribute both to direct support of the population by reducing the costs of vehicle owners, and will have a positive impact on the economy. It is also a measure to reduce the cost of intercity travel - to support national carriers. In addition, this will help farmers, as well as other domestic producers, who, as a result of lower prices, will be able to offer a competitive product in terms of cost formation. “This is a bill to support the country's economy and the well-being of our citizens,” said Petru Burduja. Since the beginning of this year, a liter of gasoline has risen in price in Moldova by almost 6 lei, and a liter of diesel fuel - by 9 lei. “The serious extraordinary situation that Moldova finds itself in requires the central authorities to make emergency decisions in order to help our citizens and save the economy, in particular the Moldovan agriculture. We note an unprecedented increase in the price of fuel, which hits hard on the pockets of citizens, but also jeopardizes the spring work of farmers. The rise in fuel prices causes a chain increase in prices for other products, including bread, dairy products, cereals, etc., thereby reducing the purchasing power, respectively, the quality of life of the population. Compared to the same period last year, the price of diesel fuel has almost doubled. Since many of the costs incurred by farmers at the input have increased several times, the very high price of fuel can prevent farmers from cultivating the land, and the cost of producing a new crop can be very high,” said Petru Burduja. // 21.03.2022 — InfoMarket
