The Ministry of Finance will ensure the effective transposition of the EU VAT Directive, considering this an important step toward modernizing the tax system and supporting Moldova’s European path
Lidia Ababii, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance stated this while speaking at a training seminar organized by the Ministry from May 13 to 15 on the transposition of the EU VAT Directive. The event was organized with the support of the EU-funded project “Moldova is Europe - Support for EU Integration.” Lidia Ababii emphasized the importance of continuing the process of harmonizing the national tax system with EU standards, as well as the need to improve the qualifications of officials involved in the development and implementation of tax policy. She noted that the effective transposition of the VAT Directive is an important step toward modernizing the tax system and supporting Moldova’s European path. The training sessions are conducted with the support of the project’s lead expert, Adriana Nutu, who provides participants with methodological guidance and practical knowledge on the process of transposing the aforementioned directive. The event is attended by about 50 specialists from the Ministry of Finance, the State Tax Service, and the Customs Service, and is aimed at strengthening the technical capabilities necessary to harmonize national legislation with European standards, which contributes to increasing the predictability of the tax system, stimulating investment, and simplifying cross-border trade. During the seminar, participants analyze the principles and mechanisms for applying the VAT Directive, as well as the practical aspects of its implementation in the national context. The training program covers topics related to the structure and scope of VAT, taxable transactions, tax exemptions, compliance mechanisms, and best practices applied in EU countries. During the sessions, experts also participate in interactive discussions, case studies, and practical exercises designed to foster a deeper understanding of the legislative and administrative requirements necessary for the effective application of the VAT Directive. // 14.05.2026 – InfoMarket.
