Discussions were held in Washington on the modernization of Moldova’s transport system and its integration into European networks, with support from the World Bank
In particular, Mircea Păscăluță, State Secretary for Infrastructure and Regional Development, took part in the international conference “Transforming Transportation 2026” held at the World Bank headquarters in Washington. During the event, he met with World Bank representatives to discuss priorities for modernizing Moldova’s transport sector and its integration into European networks. The main topic of discussion was the reform of the railway sector, which is in the final stages of reorganization in accordance with EU standards, by separating railway infrastructure from transport operations. The strategic role of Moldova's railways in European transport corridors (TEN-T) was also highlighted, as well as the potential for using railway infrastructure for logistics, transit, and storage, including in the context of Ukraine's recovery. Discussions also focused on the development of multimodal transport, including the creation of a logistics centre that will connect road and rail transport with European networks. At the same time, Moldova continues to digitize transport services to improve the efficiency of processes and the accessibility of services for citizens and the business community. As noted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, cooperation with the World Bank remains extremely important for promoting reforms and implementing strategic projects in Moldova's transport sector. // 13.03.2026 – InfoMarket.
