In Moldova, the construction of the 400 kV Balti-Suceava transmission line and the expansion of the 330 kV power plant in Balti were declared a project of national importance.

The Ministry of Energy reported this, noting that the corresponding decision was made by a special commission created earlier by the government for a preliminary study of this issue. It is headed by Secretary of State of the Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan. During the meeting, members of the commission, which includes representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, as well as the chairmen of districts and mayors of settlements in whose territorial radius the construction of the Balti-Suceava power line and the modernization of the power plant in Balti will be carried out, analyzed arguments regarding the strategic importance of the project for ensuring the energy security of our country. Constantin Borosan emphasized that the implementation of this project will increase the level of energy security of the country, especially the northern region, stimulate the development of economic sectors by providing electricity supply services in conditions of increased reliability for the entire country, as well as increasing the degree of flexibility of the electric power system, which will allow the integration of additional capacities for the production of energy from renewable sources. As noted in the Ministry of Energy, the project involves the construction of a 400 kV overhead power line with a length of 138 km, including 90 km in Romania and 48 km in Moldova. The 400 kV transmission line Balti-Suceava will cross the territory of 12 settlements that were identified on the basis of the project: Balti municipality – Sadovoe village; Glodeni district – Balatina village, Cuhnești village, Dușmani village, Ciuciulea village, Limbenii Vechi village, Fundurii Vechi village; Falesti district – Obreja Veche commune, Hiliuţi commune, Pirlita village; Riscani district – Corlateni village. The routes are designed to avoid private lands, protected areas and residential developments as much as possible. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2027, and its total cost is estimated at 77 million euros. Earlier it was also reported that the cost of construction of the 400 kV transmission line Balti-Suceava alone is estimated at 37 million euros, while 14.8 million euros for its implementation will be provided in the form of a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, and 7.4 million euros will be provided by the European Union in the form of a grant. // 25.06.2024 — InfoMarket.
