67 projects worth €1.1 billion are currently being implemented in Moldova with EBRD support, and the Bank's total contribution to 193 projects amounted to almost €2.9 billion

This was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The parties discussed projects implemented in our country with the support of the EBRD, as well as this year's priorities in the field of infrastructure. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of EBRD support for projects that are at the heart of the reforms initiated in Moldova, the implementation of the European agenda, and the attraction of foreign investment to the country's economy. Alexandru Munteanu also spoke about priority projects in the energy sector and in the field of railway and road infrastructure, which will improve internal transport accessibility and connections with Romania and the European Union. He noted that over the past four years, Moldova has made significant progress in strengthening its energy independence by diversifying its energy sources and interconnecting its networks with the European Union, including through the Vulcanesti-Chisinau line. Construction work is in its final stages, and the first operational tests are scheduled for February-March. At the same time, Moldova will build two more strategic power lines, Straseni-Gutinas and Balti-Suceava. Another major project is the construction of a 25-kilometer section of electrified railway between Iasi and Ungheni with European gauge, which will allow modern trains to run between Moldova and Romania and open up significant economic opportunities for entrepreneurs in our country. Another project is the construction of the A1 motorway, the first motorway in our country, which is a continuation of the A8 motorway in Romania and will directly connect Romania, Chisinau, and Odessa. There are also plans to complete the construction of a railway bridge at Falciu and reopen the Cahul-Galati line, which is intended for both freight and passenger transport. At the same time, major projects such as “European Village” and “European Courtyard,” aimed at modernizing settlements and improving the living standards of the population, will continue. The parties analyzed new opportunities for cooperation in the context of the established priorities, including in the energy sector, emphasizing that 67 projects with a total value of €1.1 billion are currently being implemented in Moldova with the support of the EBRD in various sectors, and about 24% of the EBRD's project portfolio is focused on supporting businesses. The EBRD is the largest institutional investor in Moldova, having invested nearly €2.9 billion in 193 projects in Moldova to date, 64% of which relate to infrastructure. // 22.01.2026 – InfoMarket.
