Amid a significant electricity shortage, temporary power outages are possible in Moldova on March 27 to maintain the balance of the power system

As reported by the National Crisis Management Center, according to data provided by Energocom, a significant electricity shortage is forecast for Friday during peak hours (6:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.), caused by insufficient available import capacity. Under these circumstances, the National Crisis Management Center warns that if electricity consumption is not reduced, there is a real risk of temporary power outages to maintain the balance of the power system. In this regard, all categories of consumers—citizens, local authorities, and economic entities—are advised to reduce energy consumption, especially during peak hours (from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.). Failure to comply with this request may lead to increased costs and the inability to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all consumers. Essential services and critical infrastructure will be prioritized for power supply to guarantee the round-the-clock continuity of vital state functions and the protection of citizens. At the same time, the provision of electricity for non-essential consumption directly depends on the level of responsibility and cooperation of each consumer. Competent authorities are using all available mechanisms to manage the situation and ensure necessary imports, but the effectiveness of these measures depends on the active cooperation of the population, as well as on an understanding of the exceptional nature of the situation. In this context, the National Crisis Management Center strongly recommends that citizens use electricity rationally, especially from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and avoid using elevators during critical periods. It is also recommended to limit the use of escalators during peak hours. Energy-intensive enterprises using electric furnaces, arc welding, etc., are strongly advised to shift production processes outside of peak hours (7:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.). Administrations of public and commercial buildings must reduce interior lighting by at least 30% and turn off storefront and advertising lighting. Citizens are also strongly advised to take basic precautions in preparation for possible temporary power outages, including securing alternative lighting sources, charging mobile devices, and avoiding the use of electrical equipment and elevators during periods of increased risk. // 27.03.2026 — InfoMarket.
