Moldova and Romania will accelerate implementation of joint projects to develop energy, road and rail infrastructure

This was discussed during a meeting held by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Romanian Acting President Ilie Bolojan. The parties discussed long-term Moldovan-Romanian partnership, opportunities to expand bilateral projects and mutual support in protecting common European values. "We count on each other to protect common European values: respect for life, freedom and well-being of our citizens. Together, we will continue specific projects that will improve people's lives - modern infrastructure, freedom of movement, energy connectivity," Dorin Recean said. According to him, joint projects that need to be accelerated are energy infrastructure projects through which Moldova will connect to the European energy system, namely the construction of the Balti-Suceava and Straseni-Gutinas power lines. The construction of four cross-border bridges, currently at the design stage, and the earliest possible start of works on the first road bridge near Ungheni are also priorities. The development of the railway infrastructure on the Fălciu-Cantemir bridge was also discussed. The parties discussed the implementation of projects within the framework of the 100 million euros assistance provided by Romania, which envisages the expansion of water supply and sewerage networks, the modernization of kindergartens and schools, and other measures that improve people's lives. In the context of current regional challenges and the elections in the two countries this year, the leaders stressed the need for close cooperation in the fight against disinformation. Dorin Recean noted that the war in Ukraine shows "how important it is to have friends with whom we can move decisively and in solidarity towards a safe and dignified future." "Our common efforts are aimed at peace, democracy and the right of citizens to independently determine their future - without foreign influence. A strong and stable Romania also means a safer Moldova firmly anchored on the European path," the Prime Minister emphasized. In this regard, he welcomed the consistency with which Romania diplomatically supports Moldova on the international arena and the European path of our country. For his part, Ilie Bolojan assured that Romania will continue to resolutely support Moldova's European path and will provide the necessary assistance in this process. The parties also confirmed the stability of trade and economic relations, Romania still ranks first among Moldova's trade partners and tops the list of major foreign investors in terms of investment volume and the number of enterprises operating in our country.// 03.03.2025 – InfoMarket.
