ANRE explained the unprecedented increase in fuel prices in Moldova by the sharpest increase in prices for oil products in the world against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine.
In particular, the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) clarified that the regional economic development caused by the situation in Ukraine has a significant impact on the prices of oil and oil products. In the first 8 days of this month alone, Platts quotes increased by $278 per ton of gasoline and $529 per ton of diesel fuel, which is the fastest growth in the oil products market. “There has never been such an evolution in such a short period of time. This leads to an unprecedented increase in fuel prices, especially in countries such as Moldova, which do not have their own production and import 100% of the required volumes of oil products,” ANRE said. As noted by the energy regulator, at the same time, in Moldova, the existing mechanism for state regulation of retail prices for gasoline and diesel fuel of a standard type softens sharp jumps and does not allow oil companies to interfere in the pricing process by unjustified increases. ANRE assures consumers that the current pricing mechanism for basic standard-type petroleum products ensures fair and transparent prices. They are influenced exclusively by events in the international market that are beyond the control of national government agencies. ANRE stated that, together with other responsible state institutions, it daily monitors the situation with current fuel imports and existing stocks in the country so that they cover domestic needs. // 09.03.2022 – InfoMarket
