Strategic projects in energy security and regional integration of interest to the EU in Central and Southeastern Europe were discussed in Moldova
Moldelectrica reported that the company's management met with the new European Coordinator, Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, appointed to monitor energy infrastructure projects of common interest (PCI/PMI) in Central and Southeastern Europe. During the meeting, Moldelectrica's management presented the current status of energy infrastructure projects being implemented, as well as the transmission system operator's strategic priorities. The discussions focused on strengthening grid interconnection, enhancing energy security, and integrating the electricity market at the regional level in line with European standards and policies in this area. The meeting's agenda included strategic projects in energy security and regional integration, including the interconnection project with Romania via the 400 kV Bălți-Suceava overhead power line, which includes the reconstruction of the 330 kV Bălți power plant – a key investment decision for increasing interconnection capacity and ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy system. It was previously reported that the EBRD announced a tender for the construction of the 400 kV Bălți-Suceava high-voltage power line, a project worth a total of €77 million. According to the Ministry of Energy, this overhead power line will allow Moldova to benefit from a more stable, efficient, and less dependent on unreliable energy sources power system, while supporting the development of renewable energy sources. The construction of the Bălți-Suceava line is part of the national strategy for interconnection with the continental European power grid, ENTSO-E. The Ministry of Energy clarified that the construction of the Bălți–Suceava power line will complete the creation of a cross-border interconnection system, along with the Isaccea–Vulcănești–Chisinau and Straseni–Gutinaș lines. // 20.02.2026 — InfoMarket
