Moldovagaz is studying the possibility of a new increase in the gas tariff for end consumers for the current payment for gas, the cost of which exceeded the average price included in the tariff.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu announced this during a press conference on Tuesday, noting that the purchase price of gas for Moldova in January reached $646 per 1,000 cubic meters, while the tariff included a price of $423.4 per 1,000 cubic meters. Andrei Spinu clarified that in such a situation difficulties arise, since Moldovagaz must not only pay for the gas consumed in the previous month, but also make a 50% advance payment for the gas supplied in the current month by the 20th of each month. And, according to forecasts, in January, the company may not have enough money to make the advance payment of about 25 million euros. In this regard, Moldovagaz is studying the possibility of an additional increase in the gas tariff for end consumers. Andrei Spinu noted that it is necessary to wait until the end of January and see what will be the average market price for gas on the exchange in order to know exactly what the exact price of gas for Moldova will be under the contract with Gazprom and whether it is necessary to increase the tariff for end consumers and how much. In his opinion, if the decline in gas prices registered in early January on the exchange continues, then perhaps in February the gas price for Moldova will be comparable to the one included in the tariff and it will be possible to avoid an additional increase in the tariff for end consumers. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that in the event of an increase in the gas tariff, the government will consider the possibility of increasing the amount of compensation for citizens. Andrei Spinu said that now it is difficult to predict prices in the context of the instability of the gas market, when the price of gas may be $1000 per 1,000 cubic meters today, and tomorrow - $2000, and we need to follow up to the end the dynamics of the market. //11.01.2022 - InfoMarket.
