In Moldova, from January 1, 2022, the amount of excise taxes on oil products increased, which led to an increase in fuel prices at gas stations - NAER

This was reported by the National Agency for Energy Regulation, stressing that the increase in fuel prices at the beginning of the new year is largely due to the fact that from January 1, 2022, the excise taxes on oil products, provided for by the Tax Code of Moldova, increased. NAER recalled that by the Law adopted on December 16, 2020, excise rates were gradually increased for a period of 3 years, respectively, for 2021-2023, for most excisable goods. As a result, from January 1, 2022, the excise tax on 1 ton of imported gasoline increased by 586 lei, and for 1 ton of diesel fuel - by 237 lei, which, accordingly, reflected in the final price at filling stations in the amount of plus 54 ban per liter for gasoline COR 95 and 25 bans per liter - for diesel fuel. This fact, combined with the latest trends in price growth on international exchanges, has led NAER to set the following maximum retail prices for basic petroleum products of the standard type on January 4, 2022: For COR 95 gasoline - 21.30 lei per liter (+0,6 lei, in comparison with the previous day), for diesel fuel - 17.73 lei per liter (+0.31 lei). NAER emphasizes that the price increase based on the increase in the size of the excise tax is one-off and is applied on the first settlement day of the new year. Further, the daily dynamics of prices for basic petroleum products of the standard type will depend solely on the level of quotations on international stock exchanges and the exchange rates of the national currency against the US dollar. NAER once again stated that the current pricing mechanism for basic petroleum products of the standard type ensures fair, transparent and easily verifiable prices, accurately reflecting changes in the international market during both periods of rising and falling quotations. At the same time, the current pricing mechanism excludes the possibility of oil companies' interference in this process by unreasonably raising them. //03.01.2022 - InfoMarket.
