It will take half a year or a year to convince representatives of the natural gas market to participate in trading on the exchange platform, - Gabriel Purice.

This was stated by the head of the Romanian Commodity Exchange during the event, which presented a new electronic platform for Moldova for trading natural gas. This platform will be operated by BRM East Energy, a subsidiary of the Romanian Commodity Exchange. He spoke about the mechanism of the exchange, through which more than 60% of natural gas is purchased in Romania. Purice said that energy resources make up 7% of the total portfolio of goods that are sold through the exchange, while grain, metal products, and building materials are sold through it in parallel. Since 2012, the exchange has been holding a platform license for transactions with natural gas, since this year it has begun trading in electricity. Through the subsidiary BRM East Energy, it is planned to develop spot and forward markets for natural gas in the Moldovan market. At the same time, a memorandum was signed with MoldovaTransgaz on the implementation of market balancing operations on its behalf. BRM East Energy will also be able to manage other gas markets: the next day market, intraday, monthly, quarterly and annual. Gabriel Purice noted that the entry of the Romanian Commodity Exchange to Moldova through BRM East Energy will allow the development of natural gas markets on the basis of transparency and open competition: the seller, the buyer and the price announced on the platform. He stated that the modernization of the Moldovan energy market and the use of the opportunity to purchase natural gas on market terms from alternative sources will strengthen the energy security of Moldova, but it will take time - six months to a year - to prepare the market for trading through the platform. The Commodity Exchange of Romania was established in 1992 and is the largest commodity exchange operator in Romania, managing an average annual volume of more than 5,000 transactions for a total capacity of more than 65 TWh, including natural gas, electricity, oil products, CO2 certificates, building materials and grains. The exchange is recognized as the leader in the natural gas trading market in Romania. More than 1.5 thousand clients use the services of the stock exchange in Romania annually. // 11.04.2022 — InfoMarket
