Romania will help Moldova with natural gas supplies, if necessary, and will provide the necessary storage capacities.
ANRE representatives made this statement for Romania at a meeting in Bucharest with a delegation of the National Agency for Energy Regulation of Moldova (ANRE), headed by general director Veaceslav Untila. The goal of the visit was to discuss with Romanian partners the main objectives of ensuring Moldova's energy security, diversifying sources of electric power and natural gas supply and enhancing inter-institutional cooperation. The Romanian side confirmed its willingness to provide the necessary support in the process of fulfilling the commitments undertaken by Moldova in the European integration process and full implementation of the Third Energy Package. The delegations discussed possibilities for Romania to contribute to ensuring natural gas supplies to Moldova in the context of a possible change in the existing contractual relations, as well as to provide Moldova with natural gas storage capacities needed in Romania. At the same time, the sides highly appreciated the connection of Moldova and Ukraine to the European energy market, ENSO-E. Thus, our country got new opportunities to diversify sources to cover its electric energy needs, which can now be imported, including from Romania. Implementation of projects to connect the energy infrastructure of both states will enhance energy security in the region, by significantly reducing Moldova's dependence on traditional sources, which is an important step in liberalizing electricity and natural gas markets. During the same visit, ANRE management held a meeting with the General Director of Transgaz România, Ion Sterian. The parties discussed Transgaz infrastructure expansion projects in Moldova and new opportunities for supplying Moldova with natural gas from the European market. // 15.04.2022 - InfoMarket
