Romania intends to acquire the RED Nord company from Moldova - Marcel Ciolacu
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Romania, noting that his country now produces more electricity than it consumes, including solar and wind, but does not have the capacity to store it. “When we have new storage facilities, all this will lead to balancing of the system and a significant reduction in the price of electricity. We have an interconnection, one of the largest in Europe, and if we continue to expand in the Moldova zone, which we are doing now, then perhaps we will buy RED Nord and then the system will be balanced much faster,” added Marcel Ciolacu. In turn, the Minister of Energy of Moldova Victor Parlicov, commenting at the request of journalists on Romania’s intention to participate in the privatization of the companies RED Nord and FEE Nord, noted that, in principle, he does not see anything new here: he previously stated that the government is preparing two enterprises for denationalization, is looking for strategic investors for these enterprises and welcomes interest from the Romanian side. “Romania is a member of the European Union and has good experience in implementing European standards in the management of the electricity sector. We already have close cooperation with Romania and we aim to become part of the EU energy market by 2029, before becoming an EU member state, by connecting the energy markets of Moldova and Romania. However, I must emphasize that the process of denationalization of enterprises is not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy,” said Victor Parlicov. Earlier it was reported that in Moldova 2 electricity distribution enterprises will be put up for privatization - RED Nord and FEE Nord. The government approved the inclusion of two joint-stock companies in the list of state-owned objects subject to privatization: Rețele Electrice de Distribuție (RED) Nord (100% of state shares) and Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord (100% of state shares). / // 15.07.2024 — InfoMarket.
