Moldova's GDP decline in Q1 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, amounted to 1.2% amid a decline in external demand - NBM

This is stated in the materials of the National Bank of Moldova regarding the latest decision of its Executive Committee to maintain the base rate applied to the main short-term monetary policy operations at 6.5% per annum. As noted, in the resource category, this dynamics was due to the negative contribution of industry, professional, scientific and technical activities, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. At the same time, their negative impact was partially mitigated by the positive dynamics recorded in the following sectors: construction, information and communications, financial and insurance activities, education, healthcare and social assistance, public administration and defense, as well as compulsory social security. In terms of use, final household consumption and gross fixed capital formation increased during this period. Net exports of goods and services continued their negative trend. In January-April 2025, exports fell by 11.3%, while imports grew by 16.2%. In terms of sources of consumption financing, the wage bill increased by 12.1% in nominal terms in Q1 2025, while cash transfers to individuals decreased by 2% year-on-year in March 2025. Thus, domestic demand partially mitigated the impact of negative net external demand.// 19.06.2025 — InfoMarket.
