In Moldova, it is planned to adopt a law providing for an external public audit in the field of natural gas.

The corresponding bill was prepared and registered in parliament by a group of deputies from the ruling PAS party. According to PAS deputy Radu Marian, on the basis of this special law, the Chamber of Accounts will conduct an audit of the compliance of capital expenditures and investments of gas companies. At the same time, companies undergoing audit, regardless of the type of ownership and organizational and legal form, regardless of whether the state is the owner of a controlling stake in their shares or not, must submit the necessary information, data and documents in the format and within the time frame requested by the Accounting Chamber. The deadline for the submission of the audit opinion is October 31, 2022. Radu Marian urged not to confuse this audit of the Accounts Chamber with the debt audit agreed in the protocol of negotiations with Gazprom on the supply of natural gas to Moldova. According to him, the debt audit agreed in the mentioned protocol will be carried out by an international company under a contract with the Ministry of Finance. “This external public audit of the Accounts Chamber should be comprehensive, which, in addition to analyzing alleged debts, should help us better understand how this area has been managed in recent years, whether there have been signals of violations, acts of corruption, fraud, and so on. The natural gas sector is critical to the well-being of the country as well as to the security of the state. Citizens have paid their natural gas bills in good faith, invested in local gas networks and deserve to know how this sector has been managed in recent years, ”said the PAS deputy. // 02.12.2021 — InfoMarket
