The Russian gas purchase price for Moldova might decrease in February 2022 by about $100 to $550-560 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu announced this while speaking on TV8. According to him, for the time being, the calculations allow us to assume such a price, but much will depend on the dynamics of quotations on international exchanges in the last days of January. Andrei Spinu recalled that the Russian gas purchase price for Moldova in January was $646 per 1,000 cubic meters and was set on the basis of the pricing formula included in the current contract, which takes into account the dynamics of quotations on European gas exchanges, as well as the cost of the petroleum products basket, to which the purchase price of gas is tied in a certain ratio. At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister once again stressed that he considers the contract with Gazprom and the formula for determining the cost of gas to be good for Moldova. In his opinion, if it were not for the anomalous increase in gas prices and the energy crisis in Europe, which directly affects Moldova, then our country would have had acceptable gas prices. Andrei Spinu made it clear that during the negotiations, the Russian side was in favor of selling gas to Moldova exclusively at market, spot prices, and in this case the gas price for our country in January would have been $1,100 per 1,000 cubic meters. At the same time, according to him, if Gazprom had agreed with Moldova's proposal to leave 100% peg to the price of the petroleum products basket in the winter period, then the price of gas in Moldova in January would have been $360 per 1,000 cubic meters. At the same time, according to the Vice-Premier, in the current conditions, Moldova eventually received a good compromise pricing formula for gas. Andrei Spinu made it clear that perhaps the Russian side could offer cheaper gas, but the Moldovan side refused to discuss any political proposals that did not concern the contractual relationship between Moldovagaz and Gazprom. // 25.01.2022 - InfoMarket.
