The Energy Community will support Moldova in overcoming the energy crisis and will help create a transparent energy market.
This was mentioned during the meeting held by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita with the leadership of the Energy Community Secretariat to discuss the current situation in Moldova's natural gas supply, as well as problems in the energy sector. It was noted that on 1 April, the Energy Community Secretariat opened an office in Chisinau to provide assistance to Moldova in modernizing the energy sector and in implementing the reforms related to the European legislation. The head of the Cabinet stressed that the participation of the Energy Community Secretariat and the support provided to the government will help Moldova overcome the energy crisis exacerbated by the war in Ukraine and rising prices, and will contribute to strengthening energy security. "Strengthening our capacity to address the challenges of the energy sector is key to ensuring our economic, social and political stability. We want the results of working with the Energy Community Secretariat to be reflected in our country's legislation and together create a safer and more sustainable energy sector to address current and future challenges in both natural gas and electricity supply. However, in the short term, we have to find solutions together in order to ensure reasonable prices for energy resources," Natalia Gavrilita said. Prime Minister referred to the actions already taken by the authorities to improve the security of the gas supply and ensure the citizens' uninterrupted access to electricity, stressing that investments in renewable sources are a priority. For his part, the director of the Energy Community's secretariat, Artur Lorkowski, assured that Moldova will be further backed to implement the European energy laws, create a transparent energy market and balance the power system in the region. The Energy Community is an international organization uniting several EU countries, Moldova, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Georgia, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine. Our country is a member of the Energy Community since 2010. // 06.05.2022 - InfoMarket
