Premier Energy Distribution networks registered record electricity consumption in January amid low temperatures and increased use of electric heating systems
As reported by Premier Energy Distribution, in January 2026, total electricity consumption in its network reached 365,246 MWh, which is approximately 17.6% more than in January 2025 and almost 15% more than in January 2024. Important maximum values were also recorded: maximum daily consumption – 13,217 MWh, maximum hourly consumption – 680 MWh. The highest values were recorded in the evening, when household consumption increased significantly. This trend has continued in February. For the first 24 days, total consumption amounted to 276,291 MWh, which exceeds the level for the same period last year and is significantly higher than the figures for 2024. Maximum daily consumption amounted to 12,884 MWh, and maximum hourly consumption amounted to 646 MWh. If the pace continues, total consumption in February may exceed previous years' figures. Premier Energy Distribution notes that increased consumption and peak loads mean increased stress on the distribution infrastructure. To maintain grid stability, citizens are advised to use energy responsibly, especially between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. They are advised to avoid using energy-intensive appliances at the same time; use energy-efficient equipment; set the optimal temperature for electric heating systems; and reduce unnecessary energy consumption. // 26.02.2026 – InfoMarket.
