Moldova and Romania will sign an intergovernmental agreement on joint control at the Leuseni-Albita state border crossing point.

In particular, Moldova’s Cabinet of Ministers authorized an official delegation headed by the state secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Jana Costache, to negotiate this document with the Romanian side. The head of the Moldovan negotiators was also authorized to initial the agreed text of the agreement. The main goal of the document is to develop cooperation relations between the Moldovan and Romanian border guard structures in the field of integrated border management and establish new forms of interaction by carrying out joint control at the Leuseni - Albita state border checkpoint on the territory of Romania, in line with European requirements and practices. The ultimate goal of the agreement is to ensure security of the border between Moldova and Romania, which is an external border of the European Union, to ensure national security, economic well-being of the participating states, to prevent and combat organized trans-border crime, international terrorism and its financing. The implementation of the agreement in practice will contribute to reducing the time of crossing the Moldovan-Romanian state border, increasing the institutional capacity of the border authorities of the two countries, as well as harmonizing control procedures according to EU standards. // 01.09.2022 – InfoMarket
