After April 22, the Moldovan authorities will find out the exact prices and volumes of electricity supplies from Moldavskaya GRES and partners in Ukraine and will determine the best options for purchasing electricity - Andrei Spinu.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced this at a press conference on Wednesday. He noted that if Gazprom stops supplying natural gas to Moldova from May 1, then the Moldavskaya GRES located in Transnistria will no longer be able to supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester, and in this regard, the Moldovan authorities are preparing for this scenario in order to provide alternative sources of electricity. In particular, Energocom is preparing for centralized purchases of electricity in an exceptional situation in the energy market. The company has already announced the auction and is waiting for proposals until April 22. Andrei Spinu specified that, according to earlier discussions with representatives of the Moldavskaya GRES, they offered a price of $76 per MWh for 70% of the required electricity volumes. Producers from Ukraine could become alternative sources capable of replacing the production of Moldavskaya GRES. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the market price in Ukraine, for example, for basic electricity (constant power for 24 hours) was $63.5 per MWh, while the Market Operator sold basic electricity at $75 per MWh. In Romania the prices are much higher. So, yesterday the price of basic energy was 241 euros per MWh. “After April 22, we will know exactly what proposals there are and the volume that both Moldavskaya GRES and our partners in Ukraine are ready to supply. Our goal remains to set the lowest price for people, buy from diversified sources, and improve our nation's energy security. But it is important to know that if the contract with Gazprom is nevertheless suspended by the Russian side after May 1, 2022, then we have solutions for the supply of both natural gas and electricity, and we are making efforts to reduce the impact of prices from alternative sources to a minimum,” Andrei Spinu said. //20.04.2022 — InfoMarket.
